Music fans, it’s December. I know, it came quick, but now you have even less time to get into the holiday spirit. If you’re running a little low on Christmastime cheer (I know I am), then this weekend is the time to switch that around. The Des Moines Social Club will be hosting jazz musician Max Wellman’s 3rd annual “Home for the Holidays” show. Here’s the schedule:
Friday, December 7: 7pm and 9:30pm
Saturday, December 8: 7pm and 9:30pm
Sunday, December 9: 2pm
Friday, December 14: 7pm and 9:30pm
Saturday, December 15: 7pm and 9:30pm
Sunday, December 16: 2pm
Third tier tickets are $20, second tier go for $35, first tier seats are $50, and if you want the VIP treatment be ready to shell out $125. Get your tickets here.
Max will be preforming with a new 7-piece band this year. Directed by local trumpeter Dave Rezek, you can expect old-school song throwbacks inspired by the Jazz Age and Beat Generation icons. Max, 21, is an amazing jazz musician and if you haven’t had the time to see him live, I highly recommend it. What better time and place for a holiday date?
This year, a series of late-night shows (the 9:30 showtimes) will make-up a slightly different show featuring co-host Chris Ford of Christopher the Conquered. These performances will be a bit rowdier with appearances from various local musicians.
I’m making my way to the 2pm showing this Sunday. I hope to see some of your shining faces there. You won’t want to miss this one–it only happens once a year!
