This past weekend was filled with with local music must-sees, one of them being Parlours’ CD Release Party at Wooly’s this past Friday. If you missed it, let me get you back up to speed.
Parlours put on a CD release party featuring the River Monks and Dustin Smith & The Sunday Silos. The Silos were first on deck, complete with a full horn section and on the cusp of a new album, to be released at the end of next month, “Northerner.” The band performed to a full house and delivered their note-worthy folkish tunes led by Dustin Smith and the soulful Paige Harpin. The best song of their set? The Turtle song. Some of the best songs are the most simple ones.
Following Dustin’s act, The River Monks picked up the pace a little bit with a ukulele player making his debut. If you haven’t checked out their music lately, get to it. Their album “Jovials” is killer. If you missed them, make sure and check them out at the Iowa Public Radio’s Studio One Block Party with The Nadas on Friday, September 14th in Nolan Plaza.
Parlours snagged the stage last and played most of the songs off of their new album, “All Is Here.” The five-piece is led by Ingrid Michaelson sound-alike, Dana Halferty. Her vocals prove poppy with an alternative folk appeal. They lulled the crowd into dance mode and kept the energy going with catchy lyrics and simple guitar riffs. My favorite song off their new album? “Slowly From The Earth.” Show some local love and buy their new album here.
